ZDNET’s key takeaways

  • Amazon is hosting a Devices & Services event today, September 30.
  • The invitation suggests we can expect new Echo speakers, Fire TV products, and a new Kindle.
  • ZDNET will be at the event to provide the most up-to-date coverage.

Amazon is preparing for its next Devices and Services event, an invitation-only event scheduled for September 30 in New York City. The company uses these events to introduce new products, including Echo speakers and displays, Kindle e-readers, and Fire TVs.

The invitation went out earlier this month and hints at the launch of a new Echo speaker, Fire TV, color Kindle, and another device with a metallic circular surface that looks like a smart speaker — or maybe a camera? A robot vacuum? These are just assumptions made based on the invitation; whatever Amazon launches at the end of the month may or may not include any of these devices.

How to watch the 2025 Amazon Devices & Services event

Amazon is holding its 2025 Devices and Services event as an invitation-only press conference, so it won’t be livestreamed. However, ZDNET will be on-site at the event and will report live to bring you full coverage of all the announcements Amazon makes in real time. Just refresh this page for the latest.

What Amazon products are we expecting?

A new color Kindle (or Kindle software upgrades): The Kindle on the invitation appears to feature a hand-drawn recreation of the Kindle logo, suggesting that Amazon may launch a full-color Kindle Scribe. Amazon launched the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition in October 2024, followed by a 16GB Kindle Colorsoft<!–> and a Kids version–>

Echo speaker: The speaker pictured on the invitation resembles an Echo Studio, viewed from above. It was initially released in 2019 and received OTA firmware updates in 2022, which added spatial audio and a new white finish. While Amazon launched new Echo Show 15 and 21 smart displays last year, the company hasn’t released a new Echo Dot, its most popular smart speaker, since 2022. As far as more recent smart speakers go, Amazon launched the Echo Spot<!–> in July 2024, following the Echo Pop’s–> May 2023 launch.

Fire TV hardware: Because the larger Echo Shows were launched more recently, the display pictured on the invitation is more likely to be a Fire TV than another smart display. Amazon released a new Fire TV Stick HD<!–> last October to replace the Fire TV Stick and Stick Lite, followed by the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series–> in April.

Vega OS to replace FireOS: New Fire TV hardware could also launch with Amazon’s Linux-based Vega OS, instead of FireOS, which is built on Android. Amazon has been working on the new operating system since at least 2023, but new reports indicate it will announce it during Tuesday’s event.
