While I’m not a binocular-wearing, bird-call-knowing birdwatcher, I’ve always loved having bird feeders in my front yard so I can see different kinds of birds frolicking around from the comfort of my couch. I also use a bird ID app that listens to different bird calls and identifies their type. But recently, smart bird feeders have gained popularity by offering high-quality images with little effort on the user’s end.
As a BirdBuddy owner, I’m no stranger to the smart bird feeder trend. But seeing how the different brands have grown and evolved in the past few years is gratifying. I saw several of these brands’ new offerings for 2025 at CES this month, including Birdfy and BirdBuddy.
BirdBuddy: Petal camera and Wonder blocks
While BirdBuddy already features some popular bird feeders, the company is expanding its lineup of smart devices to include Wonder Blocks, a set of habitats for pollinators and other insects, and a Petal camera to watch their activity.

The Petal is a 4K-resolution flower-shaped camera that captures all your garden activity with an optional solar panel shaped like a leaf. This camera can be placed in your garden to monitor plant growth or insect activity, helping you and those around you learn more about the visitors to your garden. The Petal Camera uses artificial intelligence to identify plants and insects and can offer information in the form of an AI chatbot with which you can interact.
