If you use Gmail on Android to send email messages, a new feature has dropped that will help you save time.

An official Google blog post details how, before, your only options for writing a response to a Gmail message were to tap Reply, Reply all, or Forward a message when in conversation view. After selecting one of these responses, you’ll see a full screen where you can type and send your reply.

Starting today, Google announced that you can reply to emails directly at the bottom of the conversation window. This means you don’t have to tap into a new window, and you can easily see the original email for reference.

To use quick reply, just open a message, tap into the text box at the bottom, type your reply, and tap send. If you want the full experience, click “Expand to full screen.”

The feature started rolling out several months ago for beta testers but now appears to be getting a full rollout. This news comes just after last week’s “Help Me Write” expansion, which uses AI to help finish your drafts.

Google acknowledges that this isn’t the best layout for more formal, longer responses, as it doesn’t have all the formatting options. However, the new option saves time for quick responses. Unfortunately, if you do not like the new interface, there doesn’t appear to be a way to turn it off right now.

Quick reply is available to all Google Workspace customers, Google Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts. It’s rolling out to personal users right now, but Workspace users are getting a 15-day gradual rollout. Google says the feature is available now, but when I checked on my personal Gmail app on my Google Pixel 8 Pro,  it wasn’t available yet.

For Apple users, this feature will be available on iOS devices later this year.
