The new device doesn’t necessarily reinvent the wheel: It still makes dumb TVs smarter, adding the Google TV platform that gives you access to streaming services like Netflix and YouTube. That said, the Google TV Streamer is more like an Apple TV 4K than a streaming stick. There are also new smart device controls and Thread support, which makes the TV Streamer more than just for entertainment.
At first glance, the Google TV Streamer appears more like a smart home hub than a Chromecast alternative, with rounded edges and a design that resembles a compact, stumpy version of the Google Pixel Tablet<!–> charging dock. The aesthetics match Google’s pebble-like industrial design, and the device is available in two colors: Porcelain and Hazel.

Naturally, the streaming device has a “Find my remote” button that pings the remote control, though you can also call on Google Assistant or go to the Google Home app on your phone to find a lost remote.
