Get 50% off an Amazon Prime membership if you’re age 18-24 – here’s how

Amazon just confirmed<!–> that Prime Day returns July 8-11, but the e-commerce giant is still full of surprises. In addition to extending the popular summer savings event from two to four days this year, the retailer announced the relaunch of Prime for Young Adults–>, a discounted Prime membership designed for 18- to 24-year-olds and college student audiences.

The facelifted Prime program offers young adults the usual perks of Amazon’s Prime membership at half the price, plus, according to Amazon, “new cash back offers, exclusive drops, and perks tailored to their wants and needs.”

Those who are eligible to join now<!–> can access Prime for 6 months at no cost during a trial period, and then continue Prime for Young Adults thereafter for 50% off the standard Prime rate – a price point Amazon says is designed for those navigating early independence.

“We’re always looking for ways to make the incredible value of Prime more affordable, accessible, and fun,” Jamil Ghani, worldwide vice president of Amazon Prime, said in a release–>. “Whether someone is beginning their first job, moving into their first apartment or college dorm, or taking time to decide what’s next, the new Prime for Young Adults membership helps members save money, save time, and make the most of this important life stage.”

An Amazon Prime membership costs $15 per month or $139 per year, but the Prime for Young Adults program cuts that to $7.49 per month or $69 per year after the 6-month, zero-dollar trial ends. That’s half off one of the most popular subscriptions without any condensed services.

If you’re looking for a savings breakdown, I’ve got you. Eligible customers will receive Prime at no cost for 6 months (a $90 value), then pay 50% off Prime for as long as they remain subscribed. If we finish out a 1-year subscription, you’ll save an extra $45 for the next 6 months following the end of the trial period. That’s a total savings of $135 if you join and remain subscribed for 12 months.

Presumably, subscribers are eligible for the 50% discounted Prime rate until they age out of the Prime Young Adults program at 25.

Amazon’s Prime membership offers many benefits, including fast delivery, shopping, streaming, reading, and more. It also offers exclusive access to Prime Day sales. With July Prime Day less than a month away, there’s no better time to take advantage of this deal.

Plus, the Prime for Young Adults<!–> membership has a few more advantages. You’ll receive 5% cash back on beauty, apparel, electronics, and personal care purchases, and for a limited time during Prime Day, you can earn 10% cash back on eligible purchases. Amazon also says members will gain exclusive “surprise and delight experiences, double or triple cash back boosters on popular brands, and special deals throughout the year.”

How I rated this deal

Since this Prime for Young Adults program offers all the benefits of Prime (and then some) at a discounted rate for select eligible individuals, I gave this deal a 5/5 Editor’s deal rating. It’s a great way to scoop up a 6-month trial at no cost, plus 50% off Prime there after, which grants you access to exclusive deals and savings, fast shipping, streaming, and more. For those ages 18-24, it’s truly a great offer to take advantage of, and as a former Prime Student–> subscriber, don’t take it for granted. The years of discounted services go fast, and Amazon’s is a particularly popular service you’ll likely have well after you turn 25. Take advantage of the savings while you still can.
