Tapo has released two new video doorbells, including the flagship Tapo D225<!–>, a dual-powered device that supports 24/7 continuous recording. Tapo, a smart home brand from tech company TP-Link, is also releasing a budget-friendly alternative, the battery-powered Tapo D210–>, though both new video doorbells are priced quite competitively.
The flagship Tapo D225 is priced at $100, but with an introductory offer using coupon 5TAPODOOR, it is currently 15% off, bringing the price down to $75. The Tapo D210 is $15 off and available for $45, down from its regular $60 price with the same code. Each device includes a chime.

The Tapo D225 is the brand’s first dual-powered video doorbell with 24/7 recording. It supports 2K-resolution video capture, color night vision, and a wired or wire-free installation. Its large 10,000mAh battery can last up to eight months on a single charge when installed without wiring. However, the 24/7 continuous recording feature is only available when the D225 is hardwired using your home’s doorbell wiring.

The flagship Tapo D225 offers pre-roll or 24/7 recording options with a wired installation. The pre-roll feature works like the Ring Video Doorbell‘s pre-roll, capturing up to four seconds before a motion is detected to give you the context of what happened at your front door.

The best part about the new Tapo video doorbells is that they don’t require a subscription to unlock cloud storage. You can add a microSD card of up to 512GB to the D225 and D210 for local storage, though you can opt for a Tapo Care subscription for cloud storage.

The new Tapo D225 and D210 also support artificial intelligence (AI) recognition features to detect people, vehicles, and packages – all with no monthly fees. The two devices also have an optional Ring Call feature, which sends you an incoming call on your paired phone when someone rings the doorbell, using two-way talk without opening the Tapo app. This sounds perfect when you’re expecting the arrival of a visitor or package.

Significant differences exist between the dual-powered Tapo D225 with 24/7 recording and the more affordable, battery-powered D210. The flagship has a larger battery of 10,000mAh, which can last up to eight months of use on a single charge, compared to the 6,400mAh battery in the D210, which lasts up to six months. The D225 has a wider field of view than the D210, at 180 degrees compared to 160 degrees.
However, both the Tapo D225<!–> and the D210–> support 2K video, color night vision with a built-in spotlight, third-party integrations with Alexa and Google, local storage with a separate microSD card, and AI detection. Both include a Wi-Fi-supported chime inside your home to alert you when the doorbell rings instantly.
