I went hands-on with Samsung’s Z Flip 7 FE, and it left me with more questions than answers

Prakhar Khanna/ZDNETSamsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is a big upgrade over its predecessor. It features an edge-to-edge cover-screen display, a bigger battery, and more polished AI features. It retains the $1,099 price tag, but Samsung needed a flip phone under $1,000 to address the increasing competition from Motorola Razr. Enter the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. Also: Everything announced at Samsung Unpacked: Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, Watch 8 Series, moreThe new entrant in Samsung’s flip lineup isn’t as affordable as the Motorola Razr, nor does it share many of the upgrades from the Galaxy Z Flip 7. However, at $900, it is the only Samsung foldable phone available under a thousand bucks. It retains many of the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s features and pairs them with the smarts of Android 16-based One UI 8. I went hands-on with the new flip phone at Galaxy Unpacked. While I appreciate Samsung for adding a more affordable Flip to the lineup, it might have missed the mark with pricing. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE looks a generation-old More

The biggest AI feature announced at Samsung Unpacked was also the most subtle

Sabrina Ortiz/ZDNETAlongside the release of its latest foldables, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7, tech giant Samsung also announced a slew of new AI features for its devices at Samsung Unpacked. While the new features make it easy to access AI assistance, they also highlight the need for enhanced security — and Samsung, with its latest Knox update, has stepped up to the plate. Also: The best VPN services (and how to choose the right one for you)Tech companies tend to prefer on-device over cloud-based AI processing. On-device AI processing provides a faster way to process user requests. The approach is also safer, as user data stays on-device. To enhance on-device privacy, Samsung launched Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP) in One UI 8. KEEP ensures that an AI application can only access a limited amount of information by creating “encrypted, app-specific environments within the device’s secure storage area,” according to Samsung. This approach ensures applications only access data they need and that the user has permitted. Also: I finally tried Samsung’s XR headset, and it beats my Apple Vision Pro in meaningful waysProtecting a user’s private information should always be a priority, especially with AI applications. AI models are often trained on users’ input data. Ensuring your most precious data stays private is crucial.  More

I tried every Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Series model – here’s why the Classic wins out

And with Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch 8 series, the company has incorporated that same core design with a curved square back and round watch face, which Samsung calls a cushion design, across all of its products. Also: Everything announced at Samsung Unpacked: Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, Watch 8 Series, moreThe Galaxy Watch 8 is available in two sizes, 40 and 44mm, while the Watch 8 Classic is available in one 46mm size with the iconic physical rotating bezel last seen on the Watch 6 Classic.
