7 reasons why I choose Android over iOS (and sideloading is not one of them)

Kerry Wan/ZDNETMy first smartphone was a Palm Pilot Treo. It was not good. It was slow, hard to use, and generally not worth the money. When I reached the point of spending all my time feeling frustrated with the Treo, I decided it was in my best interest to find a better option. At the time, that better option was an iPhone 3G. I realized immediately what a smartphone could be. The iPhone was several magnitudes superior to the Treo. Even better: It simply worked. When I wanted to do something, the iPhone did it. I could do all the things I couldn’t do with the Treo and do them with ease. Sounds great, right? Also: I upgraded to the Google Pixel 9 Pro, and its most impressive feature was not the softwareThat marriage lasted roughly a year. From the first moment I touched that iPhone to the day I jumped the Apple ship, I found myself as frustrated with the iPhone as I’d been with the Treo. What? How’s that possible? OpenAI expands o1 model availability – here’s who gets access and how much

Sabrina Ortiz/ZDNETChatGPT has consistently generated high-quality responses, improving its quality through updates with newer models. Last week, OpenAI unveiled an even more capable model, o1, but there were limitations on who could access it and how much they could. OpenAI has now expanded its o1s availability to deliver on both fronts. On Monday, OpenAI shared via an X post that it increased the o1-preview and o1-mini limits for Plus and Teams users due to high interest. The o1-mini limits have been expanded sevenfold from 50 messages per week to 50 per day. Since o1-preview is a bit more costly, OpenAI increased that rate by a bit less, increasing the limits from 30 messages per week to 50 messages a week. Also: The new king of AI image generators may surprise you (like it did me) These higher limits require a ChatGPT Plus membership of $20 per month More

Jun didn’t mention an exact date or how much the handset will cost. But, GSMArena states that the MIX Flip will cost €1,300 across Central and Eastern Europe. Do note that number comes from “what a regional manager said back in July,” so things may have changed. Speaking of availability, don’t expect this device to arrive in the US. The ban on Xiaomi phones was lifted back in 2021; however, the company has yet to make an official appearance in the American market. The reason: Entering a market dominated by phone carriers would require a lot of time, money, and resources that Xiaomi isn’t willing to invest. More
