  • Neurable unveils MW75 Neuro LT headphones.
  • Tracks brain activity with built-in EEG sensors.
  • Promises upgraded software and brain-tracking features.

Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 aren’t the only headphones that integrate health-tracking features into audio devices. But while Apple focuses on calories, steps, and heart rate, Neurable’s second-generation MW75 Neuro LT headphones track your focus, mental recovery, and cognitive strain.

EEG monitors and brain-computer tech

The headphones utilize Master & Dynamic’s MW75 premium headphone model, integrating electroencephalogram (EEG) monitors and Neurable’s brain-computer interface technology to monitor brain waves. The MW75 Neuro LT are the second generation of Neurable’s brain-reading headphones, and promise upgrades to comfort, fit, and app features at a more accessible price.

The MW75 Neuro LT features 12 EEG channels, with sensors woven into the ear pads, similar to their predecessor. Many of the newest features are available in the Neurable app upgrades, which allow users to access four new brain insights: Cognitive Snapshot, Cognitive Strain Detection, Brain Age Tracking, and Anxiety Resilience scores.

Cognitive Snapshot

Cognitive Snapshot is like Fitbit’s Morning Readiness score for your brain. Users can put the headphones on in the morning and take a two-minute Cognitive Snapshot to predict their brain’s readiness for the day. Cognitive Strain Detection offers real-time insights into which mental activities are causing the most exhaustion.

Brain Age Tracking uses a week’s worth of data collected from your brain by the headphones to compare your brain health to your chronological age. Anxiety Resilience uses scores to grade your stress management. Over time, the headphones could help you reduce anxiety sensitivity.

I tested the first-generation MW75 Neuro when they debuted last year, and it appears Neurable has addressed the few issues I had with them. The Neurable companion app had limited functionality, tracking brain activity only when you engaged in a Focus Session. However, updates encourage users to wear the headphones like any other pair, and the EEG sensors will track cognitive activity in the background.

Second-generation improvements

Despite their limited functionality, I enjoyed the MW75 Neuro’s insights; they informed me when I was distracted, which time of day I was most intensely focused for extended periods, and, most importantly, the headphones could tell me when I needed a mental break before exhaustion set in.

A smoother app experience, coupled with the Neuro LT’s lighter build and more affordable price tag, could make the second-generation model more palatable to a broader audience. The Master & Dynamic MW75 headphones lend Neurable six microphones for active noise cancellation, 40mm Beryllium drivers, seven listening modes, and AptX Adaptive Bluetooth codec compatibility.

The MW75 Neuro LT are now available for preorder<!–> in Black and Olive for $499, a $200 decrease from their predecessors.
