Back in 2024, Opera added Spotify as an app that can be pinned and opened from the browser’s sidebar. This feature worked very similarly to the messaging and AI apps (such as Messenger, Slack, and Aira). With a recent update, the Spotify app has been improved to be sleeker and more user-friendly.
New features for the Spotify inMusic Player include the ability to detach the player and move it around the browser so it’s in the perfect position for your needs. A floating mini player also helps you pause, play, skip, and switch music. Music is also automatically muted and resumed when you load a web page that plays audio.

The Opera Spotify mini player works on Linux, MacOS, and Windows. For it to work, you’ll want to download the latest version of the browser, which has the necessary flags (#miniplayer-in-toolbar and #miniplayer-redesign-2) enabled.

I’ve used the new mini player and can attest that it’s quite nice. It simplifies interaction with your currently playing music, without having to constantly open the sidebar. And the mini player is unobtrusive enough that it won’t get in the way of viewing website content.
The mini player is a bit finicky on Linux. I tested it initially on Pop!_OS and found the player vanishes after being moved. This is not the case on MacOS. Hopefully, that little Linux bug will be fixed soon.
