ZDNET’s key takeaways

  • EcoFlow’s new Delta Pro Ultra X is a whole-home power system, expandable up to 90kWh.
  • The Smart Home Panel 3 handles 200A and up to 32 circuits.
  • EcoFlow says it takes seven days from scheduling an install to having it fitted.

People who live in areas prone to power outages are turning to power stations to cover service interruptions. Some pick up small power stations<!–> that can be tucked under a bed or put in a cupboard and are enough to run vital devices, while others are installing whole-home power backup systems–> that can hold days worth of power.

But the problem with the bigger systems is that they can take a long time — weeks or even months — to install (unless you’re handy enough to do it yourself, but most people don’t have the know-how or the right certifications to mess with grid power). EcoFlow wants to make the process as quick and easy as possible with its new Delta Pro Ultra X.

On the hardware side of things, the Delta Pro Ultra X can push out 12kW of continuous output, which can be increased to 36kW. This is a 60% increase over its predecessor, the Delta Pro Ultra<!–>, which is itself a beast. Those who want more power can – in exchange for increasing amounts of cash – boost the capacity all the way up to 180kWh.

Thanks to high-efficiency components, the Delta Pro Ultra X offers a staggering energy conversion efficiency of 97%, allowing the power station to run high-demand appliances such as water heaters, induction ovens and EV chargers that previously needed the horsepower of a grid connection.

The system is also solar compatible, and can accept up to 10kW of input, which can charge two batteries from zero to 80% in under an hour.

There’s also a Smart Home Panel 3 that becomes the brains of a smart home system. This is an intelligent energy management system that can handle 200A and 32-circuits. This can boost runtime by up to 42% during critical periods by shutting off non-essential circuits.

The modularity of the system allows for expansion and even relocation, allowing the setup to adapting to the evolving needs of the home without having to chuck everything away and start again.

While the hardware is impressive, there’s something else that sets the Delta Pro Ultra X apart: installation. EcoFlow has partnered with an extensive network of over 425 certified installers covering pretty much every state to offer installation in seven days or less from scheduling, with the on-site setup by EcoFlow-certified electricians done in a day.

A system like this isn’t cheap. The Delta Pro Ultra X<!–> bundle which includes an inverter and two batteries is $7,999. Throw in a Smart Home Panel 3 for another $2,999, or you can pick up everything in a complete Delta Pro Ultra X package for $10,899 until the end of the year.
