ZDNET’s key takeaways

  • The Samsung Galaxy S25<!–> is capable and compact.
  • It is now selling at a 23% discount, bringing the price to $660.
  • That’s $10 more than Galaxy S25 FE’s $650 launch price.

The Galaxy S25–> was my recommendation for the phone to buy from the three new Samsung flagship phones launched in January. After nine months, it is an even better deal now, thanks to the Amazon Prime Day sale<!–> that starts Tuesday. My favorite Galaxy S-series phone is now available at its all-time low price, which brings the cost down to $660. This places it in the range of the new Galaxy S25 FE, but you get a better display, flagship processor, smoother user interface, and a more comprehensive camera system – all for just $10 more.

Who should buy the Galaxy S25 on Amazon Prime Day sale?

I used the Samsung Galaxy S25 as my primary phone earlier in the year, and this could be the perfect phone for many people. Here’s when you should consider picking the Galaxy S25 for $660.

1. You want a flagship experience but don’t want to spend $1,000

The Samsung Galaxy S25 was launched with Android 15-based One UI 7, and is now upgradable to One UI 8. It is one of the smoothest Android user interfaces on the market, thanks to responsive animations and some useful AI features.

For instance, AI Select lets you highlight on-screen content and suggest on-device actions, like “Add to Calendar” for email and text invites. Tap on it, and the time, date, and location are automatically filled in within your Calendar app. Apple rolled out a similar feature with iOS 26 for the new iPhone 17 lineup this year.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, which is tuned to make the most of its relatively small 4,000mAh battery. You’d ideally need to spend upwards of $800 to get this chipset, but the Prime Day season is bringing it to you for $660.

2. You want a near-no-compromise compact phone

Most no-compromise flagship phones pack everything you’d want in a design that’s too big to hold for most human hands. The Galaxy S25 Ultra and iPhone 17 Pro Max are some of the best phones of 2025, but they aren’t the most ergonomic. If you want a relatively compact phone without major compromises, the Galaxy S25 is your best bet under $700.

You get a 6.2-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate and easy outdoor legibility, a comfortable-to-hold design, and a versatile camera system. The latter isn’t Galaxy S25 Ultra level, but you still get the goodness of an ultrawide and telephoto camera sensor. For reference, it houses a 50MP primary camera with optical image stabilization, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide-angle sensor.

While Samsung has managed to deliver better battery life in a slimmer and lighter design, battery charging is stuck at 25W. It isn’t slow by US standards, but something to keep in mind if you’re hoping for OnePlus 13-level fast charging.

3. You want a long-lasting Android phone

While the iPhone 17 is an excellent choice for the majority of users this year, if you want to stay in the Android lane, the Galaxy S25 is an excellent option, even in the long term. Samsung offers seven years of Android OS and security updates on its flagship phones, and the Galaxy S25 is no different. So, it’ll last you for at least six more years.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 is one of the best compact phones on the market right now. You get a big enough display, thanks to slim bezels, in an ergonomic form factor. This, without compromising on raw power and camera versatility, makes it a winner. And at the new $660 sale price, the Galaxy S25 is one of the best deals you’ll find on Amazon Prime Day sale.
