Whisker calls it WasteID, and it’s available in both Litter-Robot 5 models. It detects what type of bathroom visit occurred and when to cycle. For #1, it waits for clumps to form, while it cycles quickly after #2, allowing it to target odor management. It also shows up in the app, so you can better track how often your cat goes #1, which can be an early indicator of a UTI or kidney disease.

While all these new features are exciting, the Litter-Robot 4 is still a great (and now cheaper) option for cat parents. In my testing, the app helps let you know your cat’s bathroom schedule, and I never have to scoop (just change out the waste drawer about once a week) is a complete game-changer.
