I tried this 3-in-1 bedside charger for a week – and Apple users will love it

The new Qi2.2 25W wireless charging protocol has given me an excuse to upgrade my bedside charging setup. It’s not so much that I need it, it’s more that I want it. And if there’s one company I’m going to trust to come up with a safe, well-made, reliable charging solution, it’s Ugreen.

I’ve been testing and reviewing a lot of Ugreen gear this year, and while they are best known for their chargers, power banks, and power stations, the company also makes some really good 3-in-1 charging stations for anyone with the Apple trifecta: iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods.

The unit that I’ve chosen for my night stand is the Ugreen 25W Qi2 Certified 3-in-1 MagFlow Wireless charging stand<!–>.

As the name suggests, this is a 3-in-1 combination charging stand for the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. The iPhone clamps onto a Qi2.2-compatible MagSafe charging pad that can deliver up to 25W to compatible devices — the iPhone 15 and newer — to charge from flat to 50% in around 30 minutes. Older iPhones can still use the charging pad, albeit with slower charging speeds.

The iPhone charging pad can also tilt up to 70° and rotate 360° so you can find the perfect angle to see the screen at night (or when it’s on your desk).

Worried that 25W is going to cause overheating and shorten battery life? I was, but I’ve been closely monitoring my iPhone’s temperatures while charging and found that it’s not a problem.

The charging pads for the Apple Watch and AirPods each output 5W. The AirPods sit in a little tray, and the Apple Watch hangs on a tray that slides out of the rear (and yes, it’s big enough for the Apple Watch Ultra – some aren’t!).

The tray for the Apple Watch slides out neatly!

Something that I really like about this charging station is that it is built with quite a bit of heft to it, especially in the base, so there’s little risk it will tip over, spilling your precious possessions all over the place. I’ve tried and tested a lot of really good 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 charging stations that were just too unstable when fully ladened with gear.

Also: Finally, my favorite electric screwdriver has a worthy successor – and it’s on sale

If it’s not stable, it doesn’t make the cut, but this one definitely does! It’s nice and stable without being too bulky (or just plain ugly). The unit comes with its own 45W charger, which is sufficient to allow for it to charge all three devices simultaneously.

ZDNET’s buying advice

Having a spot to put all EDC (everyday carry) electronics to charge is good for someone like me. Not only does it mean everything is ready for the next day, it also encourages me to be tidy, which is always a good thing.

The Ugreen 25W Qi2 Certified 3-in-1 MagFlow Wireless charging stand–>

has a retail price of $140, which propels it straight into the premium category, but over on Amazon there’s currently 29% being offered off, bringing it down to a much more reasonable $100. Still a very premium price tag, but it’s ultimately worth the price.
