Right now, AT&T is offering the Apple iPhone 17 Pro for $0 when you trade in your old iPhone. Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro is certainly flashy – especially if you opt for the eye-catching Halloween-appropriate Cosmic Orange model. But it has a number of upgrades beyond aesthetics that made us particularly eager to share this deal while it’s still available. The iPhone 17 Pro has caused a lot of buzz since its release a week ago, and we’ve written several articles about whether or not it’s worth it to level up from the iPhone 16 or the iPhone 15 Plus

ZDNET senior editor Sabrina Ortiz reviewed the iPhone 17 Pro and explained why she’s almost definitely upgrading, even when the iPhone 16 was only released a year ago. One major advancement she noted is the new camera specs.

“For the first time, the three-camera array includes three 48MP Fusion cameras, including the new 48MP Telephoto camera, which has a sensor that is 56% larger than the previous generation,” Ortiz says. These improvements ensure that your photos are crisper and more vibrant in different lighting settings. Ortiz also mentioned the Center Stage feature, which provides a wider field of vision for group selfies and better resolution.

Another standout feature of the iPhone 17 Pro is its longer battery life due to the iPhone’s unibody design. Apple claims the phone supports 33 hours of video playback, a significant step up from the 27 hours of playback offered by the iPhone 16 Pro. The 17 Pro has a 6.3-inch display, an A19 Pro chip, and revolutionary vapor chamber cooling. The vapor chamber uses deionized water to prevent overheating of the A19 Pro chip, the largest factor that influenced ZDNET editor in chief Jason Hiner’s recommendation

Plus, AT&T has an even spookier option. When you trade in your iPhone to nab the iPhone 17 Pro–>

you’ll also get $50 off a pair of Powerbeats Pro 2 earbuds. These buds can measure your heart rate, include five ear-tip sizings, and offer adaptive EQ, spacial audio, and noise-canceling and transparency modes. They also come in an equally as fun orange that pairs great with the Cosmic Orange iPhones.

How to get this deal

On the AT&T website<!–>, select the button “trade in and save.” Input your old phone’s information and receive your estimated trade-in value. AT&T states that the trade-in is available for iPhones of any condition (at least $180 in value), and like most other carrier offers, your credit (of up to $1,100) is awarded monthly. Note that this offer is only available if you have an eligible unlimited plan and your iPhone you intend to trade in is an iPhone 13 or higher (excluding the iPhone 13 mini). Then, add the Powerbeats Pro 2 earbuds–> to your cart in the same purchase as the iPhone 17 Pro<!–> and receive $50 off, making the earbuds $200.

How I rated this deal

I rated this promotion a 4/5 editor’s deal rating because while getting a “free” iPhone 17 Pro is a nice way to afford an upgrade, AT&T requires an eligible unlimited plan to cash in, and the free price tag is available after your trade-in has garnered $1,100 in credits over 36 months. While it’s definitely better to get the earbuds for $200 rather than $250, a 20% discount isn’t the highest we’ve ever seen (and it might be even cheaper with Black Friday sales).

This trade-in promotion will expire on October 16th, 2025, though these types of offers are typically while supplies last.
