It’s no secret that Meta has been enhancing and building out its Twitter-like offering Threads over the past few weeks — likely to remain competitive against X competitor Bluesky. Recent improvements include custom feeds, advanced search, the option to choose a default feed, AI-powered summaries of trending topics, and more.

On Thursday, Instagram boss Adam Mosseri announced another change that would potentially attract more brands and creators to join the social media site as Threads and Bluesky compete for X defectors. In a Threads post, Mosseri detailed that Meta is “testing changes to Insights on Threads, starting with metrics for individual posts.”
Threads has garnered criticism from creators on the platform, specifically concerning the app’s algorithm and the lack of data on content performance. This new change may entice more people and creators to learn how to help grow their platforms on the site.
The announcement comes on the heels of a major algorithm improvement that enables users to view more content from the accounts they follow. “Now that your posts will be shown to more people who follow you, it’s especially important to understand what’s resonating with your existing audience,” Mosseri noted in his post.

Threads has accumulated a user base of more than 275 million monthly active users, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, but has struggled to capture the audience it intended to house on the site such as lifestyle brands, influencers, and people interested in “sports, music, fashion, beauty, and entertainment,” Mosseri said.

In 2023, Mosseri took to Threads to clarify that the company’s goal isn’t to replace Twitter, but “to create a public square for communities on Instagram that never really embraced Twitter and for communities on Twitter (and other platforms) that are interested in a less angry place for conversations, but not all of Twitter.”
